Below are some historical and artistic places we recommend you visit
La tana di Fragolo is set in a central position for visiting the most famous Tuscan localities. However, you do not need to go far in order to admire the Tuscan countryside, the beauty of nature and take in the atmosphere of castles and medieval cobblestoned villages. All you have to do is leave our B&B on foot, walk along a few metres of the cypress and oak tree-lined road and admire the Castello di Pergolato, a very old stately residence dating back to the twelfth century which was transformed into a villa in 1520 and which occupies a position dominating the valley of the River Pesa. In little more than 10 minutes by car you can visit the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo at Badia a Passignano, a large monestary still today surrounded by its 14th century walls. In 2015 work was finished on its 14th century frescoes among which includes Ghirlandaio’s “Last Supper” present in the monastery’s refectory inside the abbey.
As well as the city of Florence (20 km. away) there are many places worth visiting. Many of these can be found along the long Strada del Vino and dell’Olio Chianti Classico (road of the classical Chianti wine and olive oil) which runs from Florence to Siena and which crosses the stunningly beautiful landscape of the ‘Chianti Classico’ territory. This land makes up the towns and municipality areas of Greve, Radda, Castellina, Gaiole in Chianti and starts out from Castelnuovo Berardenga, Barberino Val d’Elsa, San Casciano Val di Pesa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.
These are zones that render the land precious thanks to the history of its towns and villages, castles, parishes and Tuscan country farmhouses, all immersed in nature, nestled among vineyards, olive groves and woods.
40 km. from La tana di Fragolo lies Siena, a city famous the world over for its ‘Palio’. Then only 35 km. away lies San Gimignano, whose historical centre with its famous towers and medieval architecture has been declared by UNESCO to be the ‘Patrimony of Humanity’. One hour away by car lies Volterra with its famous historical centre of Etruscan origin, its Roman remains and medieval buildings. Its city gates and outer walls are to this day still perfectly conserved.

In front of our B&B nestled amongst the hillside lies Cantina Antinori nel Chianti Classico (The Marquis Antinori Wine Cellar). It is a work of extraordinary architecture lying hidden among olive trees, vineyards and the woodlands of oak and holm-oak. It is a temple dedicated to wine; but above all it is a homage to the Tuscan landscape and its vineyards. Besides the nearby Cantina Antinori (Antinori cellar), while still remaining in the Chianti Classico zone, we recommend you visit and discover other historical wine cellars which have been marked out for you on this map.
An oenological itinerary is a must to be combined with a relaxing holiday at La tana di Fragolo.
